Some of the favorite pop songs of all time are about love and friendship. James Taylor’s You’ve Got A Friend, Lean on Me by Bill Withers and What the World Needs Now is Love from Jackie DeShannon are examples. Occasionally a gospel song comes along in the same vein. The Walls Group have released Friend in Me, and it is making moves on gospel radio. The tune expresses a commitment to brotherly love between friends that is rooted in God’s love.

The Walls Group

The Texas siblings, Rhea, Ahjah, Darrel Walls and Alic “Paco” Walls are an Urban Contemporary Gospel group discovered by Kirk Franklin, who in 2014 signed them to his Fo Yo Soul Recordings in association with RCA Records. This Spring the quartet moved to My Block record label.  Friend in Me leads off the Week 30 edition of HG20 at #20. Check it out now at www.hotgospel20.com.

Human friends are great to have, but the greatest friend of all is Jesus Christ, who loves you so much He gave His life to save you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13 NIV.
