Jesus was exhausted as He went through all the towns and villages teaching, preaching, healing every sickness, and raising the dead. Still there were crowds of people needing Him. He was filled with compassion for them. So the Lord turned to His followers and said, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Read Matthew 9:35-38.) He asked for help.
Just as there were masses of people harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd then, so there are now. Men, women and children everywhere who are longing for the hope and healing only Jesus can give. Each disciple of Christ has the responsibility to respond with godly compassion to the despairing and hurting people within our reach. Opportunities abound. Can He count on you?
